Deal cancels out futures owed to Terriers

High school hockey is catching on in the Flin Flon region. The Greenstone High School Hockey League (GHSHL) launched its second season Wednesday with two new teams and a growing sense of enthusiasm.

Former Flin Flon Bombers goalie Carsen Chubak is still stopping pucks. The 26-year-old currently plays for the Edinburgh Capitals of the UK-based Elite Ice Hockey League. It is Chubak’s second season in Europe and the EIHL.

His team had just suffered its first-ever defeat, a season-ending heartbreaker that could have gone either way. But Tyler Williamson, starting running back for the Creighton Kodiaks, wasn’t about to marinate in frustration and disappointment.

When Joel Webb requested a trade out of Flin Flon, the Bombers began searching for a 19-year-old offensive forward in exchange for the talented blueliner. Mission accomplished.

Flin Flon Bombers rookies Isaac and Rylan Tkachuk are used to people assuming they are related. It does make some sense as the two talented 18-year-olds share an uncommon last name and grew up in the same area.

The Flin Flon Bombers’ three-goalie carousel is no more after the team traded Connor Slipp to the MJHL’s Winkler Flyers.

Former Flin Flon Bombers goalie Matt Weninger (2008-10) is now the regional manager for Pro Goal Development in Regina. He also helps out with the business in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The Creighton Kodiaks football team will play – and host – their first-ever provincial playoff game tomorrow, Saturday, at 3 pm local time.
