The Flin Flon Bombers’ three-goalie carousel is no more after the team traded Connor Slipp to the MJHL’s Winkler Flyers.
Bombers head coach and general manager Mike Reagan announced the deal Wednesday, with future considerations coming back to Flin Flon.
“I have nothing but great things to say about Connor,” Reagan said. “We have nothing but the outmost respect for Connor and he was a great guy in the room. It’s hard for us to see a kid like him go.”
Slipp, 19, appeared in six games with Flin Flon over two seasons. He spent last season as a third-stringer behind Adam Beukeboom and Simon Hofley, and this season behind Zac Robidoux and Brenden Newton.
Slipp joins a Flyers team that recently lost its starting goalie to an injury sustained in practice. He was expected to join the team in time for its game yesterday, Thursday, in OCN.
The Flyers touted Slipp’s “pretty impressive” 2.05 goals-against average and 0.932 save percentage in five games with the Bombers last season.
In his lone game this season, he allowed five goals on 21 shots in a 40-minute appearance.
The Calgary product is known for his team spirit and size, standing 6 ft 3 in and weighing 190 lbs.
While Flin Flon’s return for Slipp has yet to be determined, Reagan has spoke of the need to improve his team’s overall defence.
