A media outlet built far from the noise
The Reminder was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba, a place that may seem far removed from the centres where trends are usually discussed, predicted or manufactured. That distance is precisely what inspired us.
From here, you quickly learn that interesting stories do not belong only to big cities. Ideas travel. Habits change. New cultural movements appear in unexpected places. And sometimes, standing a little further away gives you a much clearer view of what is actually happening.
That is the idea behind The Reminder: to notice what is changing before everyone stops noticing it.

It is increasingly easy for media to become a reflection of whatever happens to be popular that morning. We wanted to build something slightly different.
Our editorial approach starts with a simple question:

We look for subjects that surprise us, teach us something or reveal a change happening around us. That can mean following a major emerging trend, but it can just as easily mean uncovering a story that almost slipped through the cracks.

We are proud to call Flin Flon home.
There is something fitting about running a trends publication from a small northern Canadian city. We are geographically distant from many of the places traditionally considered cultural centres, yet digitally connected to all of them.
That gives The Reminder its perspective.
We observe what is happening in Canada and across the world, without pretending that every interesting story begins in Toronto, New York, London or Los Angeles.
Sometimes the most useful perspective comes from somewhere unexpected.
More signal, less noise
There is more information available today than anyone could reasonably follow.
Our job is not to add to that volume for the sake of it. It is to identify the stories that deserve a second look and present them in a way that is clear, accessible and enjoyable to read.
We want readers to leave The Reminder having discovered something they did not know five minutes earlier.
Something useful.
Something surprising.
Or simply something worth remembering.
Why “The Reminder”?
Because interesting things disappear quickly.

The name The Reminder reflects what we want this publication to be: a place that brings worthwhile stories back into focus.
