Former Flin Flon Bombers goalie Matt Weninger (2008-10) is now the regional manager for Pro Goal Development in Regina. He also helps out with the business in Lethbridge, Alberta.

PGD provides instruction to goalies of all ages and abilities in Western Canada. PGD alum have gone on to various levels of junior, university and pro hockey.

“As a coach it is a lot of fun seeing goalies we have worked with for numerous years have success and reach their goals,” Weninger said. “I learned a lot from [coach and GM] Mike [Reagan] in Flin Flon and try to implement some of the philosophies I learned from Mike. He was always very demanding of his players but would do anything for them to help them succeed, and that is something I try to do as well.”

The Lethbridge product loved the fans and atmosphere when he played in Flin Flon.

“The Whitney Forum was the best rink to play in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the rink was always loud and the atmosphere was intense,” said Weninger. “We had a great coaching staff and it is great to stay in touch with Mike Reagan and see the success he has continued to have in Flin Flon.”

Weninger started his junior career with the SJHL’s Kindersley Klippers. After playing for the Bombers, he competed for four seasons at the NCAA Division I level at St. Lawrence University.

In addition to his work at PGD, Weninger is the goalie coach for the SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers. He also is working with the Team Saskatchewan U16 squad that is competing in the Western Canada Challenge Cup this month.
