Flin Flon Bombers rookie defenceman Cory Thomas found himself playing with some different teammates last week. The St. Brieux, Saskatchewan, product competed on Team West in the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospect Game in Surrey, B.

It’s not yet spring, but Flin Flon’s hockey pride was in full bloom this past weekend. The Bombers played in front of a vibrant announced crowd of 1,749 fans at the Whitney Forum on Friday, Jan. 29 – also known as Hockey Night in the North.

Flin Flon and Creighton school divisions worked together to host a junior high invitational basketball tournament last weekend.

The Flin Flon Bombers’ top line of Alex Smith, Brandon Switzer, and Joel Kocur continues to excel. As of Jan. 24, Smith led the SJHL with 69 points. Switzer was third with 66 points, while Kocur sat seventh with 57.

It was the first time they had won a home tournament, and they did it undefeated. Creighton Kodiaks senior girls’ basketball team will now go on to one of the best tournaments in Saskatchewan, according to coach Ryan Trumbley.

Flin Flon Bombers standout forward Alex Smith will be a Husky next winter. The 20-year-old from Edmonton has committed to play for the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Flin Flon Bombers’ rookie defenceman Cory Thomas will briefly be away from the team this week to play in the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospect Game on Jan. 26. The event, being held in Surrey, B.C.

In spite of an eight-game winning streak being snapped, the Flin Flon Bombers’ road trip last week was definitely a success. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League squad went 3-1.

Flin Flon Bombers forward Alex Smith has been named the SJHL player of the week. Last week the 20-year-old standout from Edmonton had four goals and eight points in four road games. As of January 24, Smith led the SJHL in scoring and assists.

Creighton’s Zach Garrett enjoyed the nine games he was on the ice with the Flin Flon Bombers during the 2013 to 2015 seasons. “It was nice playing for Flin Flon,” Garrett said. “Growing up there, it was my dream to play for them.
