Flin Flon Bombers forward Alex Smith has been named the SJHL player of the week.
Last week the 20-year-old standout from Edmonton had four goals and eight points in four road games.
As of January 24, Smith led the SJHL in scoring and assists. He has 69 points and 44 assists in 44 games.
Smith has points in nine straight games. Only twice since Nov. 21 has he not recorded a point.
When asked about his successful week, Smith said, “Playing with linemates like I have makes it easy to have success.”
For most of the season, he has been centring the line of Joel Kocur and Brandon Switzer. All three rank in the top seven in the SJHL in scoring.
Last week, Smith’s production helped Flin Flon go 3-1 on the road.
“Four games in five nights is a physical grind,” Smith said. “It becomes mental in the third and fourth game of a road trip that long. Getting proper rest and hydrating really make a difference come the end of the road trip.”
Last week Smith had two goals in a shootout victory over Nipawin. He also recorded three points in a win against Notre Dame and an assist as the Bombers downed Estevan. Smith had a goal and an assist in a one-goal loss to Weyburn.
