The Flin Flon Bombers’ top line of Alex Smith, Brandon Switzer, and Joel Kocur continues to excel.
As of Jan. 24, Smith led the SJHL with 69 points. Switzer was third with 66 points, while Kocur sat seventh with 57.
Strong relationships on and off the ice have helped the trio of 20-year-olds light up the SJHL this season.
“We have really good chemistry and have been playing together for a while,” Kocur said. ”Also we’re best friends off the ice and always pushing each other and wanting each other to succeed.”
Smith and Switzer have each racked up 21 points so far in January. Kocur has posted 16 during the month.
Reagan said opposing teams are definitely focusing on the high-scoring trio, but, “They are still able to do what they are doing. I think that is a real credit to those guys and the way they compete.”
Smith tops the league with 44 assists in 44 games. When it comes to lighting the lamp, Switzer leads the team and is third in the league with 30. Kocur is one goal behind him and is fourth in the SJHL.
While the trio continues to pile up points, other players are scoring at opportune times for the Bombers.
“I think our secondary scoring doesn’t get the credit they deserve,” Reagan said.
Defenceman Joseph Leonidas is fourth on the team in scoring with 25 points. He is followed by Tyson Empey, 22 points, Greyson Reitmeier, 21, and Jason Lavallee, who has posted 21 points in 25 games. Including his time with Melville, Mitch Foyle has 20 points on the season. Rookies Brandon Lesko and Nick Shumlanski have 20 and 18 points respectively, to round out the Bombers’ top 10 scorers. Rylee Zimmer has chipped in with 11 points in 17 games since joining the team.
