The latest chapter of the Hanson Lake Road rivalry has gone to the Flin Flon Bombers. Flin Flon took down the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-1 on Friday night.

It has been a year of growth for the new look Flin Flon Bombers blue line. This season’s seven-deep D core features five players new to Flin Flon – including four rookies.

In Flin Flon, Devin Buffalo was a brick wall in the Bomber crease. In the US, he has a chance to be named the country’s top college hockey player. Buffalo was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the NCAA’s top player.

Flin Flon rookie Chrystopher Collin enjoyed many aspects of the Canadian Junior Hockey League Prospects Game last week. “It was an incredible experience,” Collin said. “I’m very happy and I was lucky to be there.

It took 11 rounds to do it, but the Flin Flon Bombers now have their first shootout win of the season. The Bombers rallied late in the third period to tie the game before beating the Yorkton Terriers 4-3.

The Flin Flon-Creighton team has been bumped out of the lead spot of the Greenstone High School Hockey League. Deschambault Lake took over top spot with a 12-4 win over Sandy Bay on Jan. 14.

The Flin Flon Bombers did not start their three game road trip off with a win. In the team's first of three games in three nights, the Bombers got one point, but not two against Melville, losing 2-1 in a shootout to the Millionaires.

Three imports from Fairbanks, Alaska are making an impact for the Flin Flon Bombers as rookies. Forwards Caleb Moretz and Ethan Daniels are third and fourth, respectively, on the team in scoring. Calvon Boots, a defenceman, is sixth.

After a year of post-production, a documentary on the Flin Flon Bombers will be screened in Flin Flon. “Flin Flon: A Hockey Town” was shot during last year’s SJHL season and chronicles part of the team’s run to the Canalta Cup finals.
