With nearly a dozen rookies on the roster, first-year athletes have certainly played important roles in the Flin Flon Bombers’ success this season.

Flin Flon Bombers defenceman Calvon Boots was shocked to find out he had been nominated for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year award. The Fairbanks, Alaska product was tabbed as the Sherwood Division’s top rookie.

The Val and Ivor Hedman Centaloppet, Flin Flon’s premier cross-country skiing event, is not typically what would be called a race. The event is more of a gathering than a race, and a festive one at that.

Since joining the Flin Flon Bombers in January, Brandson Hein has had an immediate impact. The 19-year-old from Winnipeg was reassigned to the junior A team from the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips.

Late penalties derailed what could have been a big upset win for the Flin Flon Bombers. The Nipawin Hawks scored two late 5-on-3 power play goals to take a 3-2 win over Flin Flon Friday night.

The Flin Flon Bombers have grabbed two points from one of Canada's top junior teams. Flin Flon pipped the Nipawin Hawks 3-2 on Monday night, defeating the fourth-ranked junior A team in Canada according to last week's CJHL rankings.

Often when kids are grappling, grabbing and throwing each other around in a gym, detention is involved. For judo instructor Josh Wiens, it’s just another normal class.
