Residents in Flin Flon and area know their local arts scene is really something special. Now readers all over Manitoba know it too, after the Flin Flon arts community was featured in Town and Country , a special section in the Winnipeg Free Press .

From artful snowmen to playful winter scenes, there will be plenty to love at the Christmas Art Show opening at the NorVA Centre today.

Last week I saw a Facebook post that I must share. It came from the Canadian Arts Coalition, which is the largest group of artists, business leaders and volunteers in Canada dedicated to keeping arts on the public agenda.

Audiences at Johnny’s Social Club were transported to the world’s great theatres last Friday and Saturday nights, Nov. 27 and 28 at Broadway Bash: Encore.

What a wonderful weekend with a Christmas concert from Jesse Peters. Of course the Flin Flon Community Choir was the best part! Actually, they only sang two songs but they sounded fantastic and looked very professional.

Since my last column we have seen and heard some really great stuff. Avery Ascher, a NorVA artist from The Pas, opened her new show at the gallery. It is lovely and will remain in NorVA until the end of November.

Two Winnipeg indie bands formed a harmonic merger in Flin Flon as Johnny’s Social Club hosted Leaf Rapids, a singer-songwriter duo featuring Keri and Devin Latimer, and Slow Leaves, aka solo guitarist and songwriter Grant Davidson. The Nov.

The Manitoba Arts Network Showcase conference, held in Flin Flon last week, is going really well as of this writing. We have more than 100 people from all over Manitoba and a representative from Dryden, Ontario.

The Manitoba Arts Network (MAN) is a non-profit, charitable arts promotion organization dedicated to advancing and showcasing arts and culture throughout Manitoba.

“I want to spread my wings, I want to grow,” says CC Trubiak. Last week, the Flin Flon musician learned he would receive an opportunity to do just that: he has been chosen to take part in the Manitoba Music Emerging Artists Showcase.
