The halls of École McIsaac School came to life recently as 148 music students from École McIsaac School, Ruth Betts Community School and Creighton Community School participated in an intensive workshop called Band Camp.

It feels like fall already, but we may have some warmer days before winter locks in. And if not, there is still plenty of arts and culture to keep you warmly entertained in the Flin Flon area. Home Routes / Chemin Chez Nous begins anew this month.

It’s now September and, as usual, arts and culture play a really big role in the life of our community. Perhaps we should change the name of Culture Days to Culture Week in Flin Flon, because that’s how long our celebrations will last.

University of Winnipeg student Megan Dupas spent her summer vacation among canvases, sculptures and prints as studio and gallery assistant at Flin Flon’s NorVA Centre.

The Wood ‘n’ Wire series of concerts at Johnny’s Social Club is going very well, with sold-out houses for every show thus far, so everyone should get their tickets in advance for the next program this Saturday, August 22.

For a town that “shuts down” in summer, we appear to have a really busy August! As mentioned in the last column, the Wood ’n’ Wire series will have two performances, August 8 and 22.

It’s mid-July and hot, but there’s still lots of excitement in the arts and culture community. The Rural and Northern Art Show opened in the Pavilion Gallery in Assiniboine Park, Winnipeg on Sunday, July 12.

Rather than filling a stadium with thousands of screaming fans, George Canyon is eager to greet area residents face-to-face at a worship concert at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday.

The Flin Flon Writers’ Guild is one of the oldest arts organizations in our culture-rich community. They meet on the second Saturday of each month at the NorVA Centre to offer contact and support to the literary artists in the area.
