NorVA showcases students’ festive artwork

From artful snowmen to playful winter scenes, there will be plenty to love at the Christmas Art Show opening at the NorVA Centre today.

From artful snowmen to playful winter scenes, there will be plenty to love at the Christmas Art Show opening at the NorVA Centre today.

The show features local students’ artwork, selected from submissions to The Reminder’s second annual Christmas art contest.

Students from kindergarten to Grade 12 were invited to submit artwork to the contest. One winning piece will be published on the front page of the Christmas issue of The Reminder on Wednesday, Dec. 23.

That paper will also include The Reminder’s annual Christmas Greetings section. Juried entries from submitted art will appear in the section, which will also feature winning stories from The Reminder’s Christmas writing contest.

This is the second year The Reminder has featured local students’ work in our special Christmas edition.

New this year is the Christmas Art Show.

“This extension of the contest allows us to showcase more pieces of art than we can publish, and also features them in their original media,” said Reminder publisher Valerie Durnin. “We get some amazingly creative pieces in a variety of media. We’re so pleased that NorVA is working with us to showcase the area’s young talent.”

Visitors are welcome to check out the Christmas Art Show until Wednesday, Dec. 23. A reception will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Everyone is welcome.

The NorVA Centre is open from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday to Friday.
