Many words can already be used to describe Hapnot wrestler Carson Lee – fierce, competitive, skilled. In a few months, he can add “world traveller” to the growing list of adjectives.

Despite a strong showing at last weekend’s Zone 11 badminton tournament, Hapnot Collegiate athletes will be coming home empty-handed. No Hapnot athletes made a final in any category, either in senior or junior varsity categories.

Rackets were swung and matches were won during last weekend’s Bird Bash badminton tournament at Hapnot Collegiate. Matches for the annual tournament took place at all four Flin Flon schools, with 85 athletes from across northern Manitoba taking part.

Indra Wood is hoping to become a nurse, but first she’s going to pursue other goals – and assists. Wood, a standout athlete and Flin Flon native, has earned a scholarship to play hockey for King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The comeback is complete. After going down 3-1 in the SJHL semifinals, the Bombers capped off the series with a 3-0 win to knock out the Nipawin Hawks and advance to the Canalta Cup Finals.

Taking the path less travelled doesn’t scare Zach Garrett. After all, it’s made him part of a championship hockey club.

The Bombers will live to skate another day after beating Nipawin 2-1 in game 5 of the league semifinals.
