Status quo for Flin Flon Minor Hockey after AGM

Executive changes and a new rule for tournaments were on the agenda as the Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association (FFMHA) held its annual general meeting last week.

Scott Eastman stepped down as president and will become past-president. Tammy Slugoski will serve as secretary with Susie Playford as treasurer. Kayla Reeves will be in charge of fundraising, while Brandi Moore handles special events.

“Overall, we only have one new board member,” said Eastman. “We kept a lot of the same people, although some of them have different positions than they had last year. For the most part, it’s a very similar board.”

The meeting ended with the positions of president and vice-president vacant, but Eastman is still optimistic about the new executive.

“I think this is one of the first times that our board was this full walking out of the meeting,” he said.

“We have a lot of returning members because in the past three or four years, there’s been a real direction on development. I think we’re going to see that again, we’re going to try to focus on development.”

In another development, a new Hockey Manitoba rule requires novice tournaments held before December 31 to be played in a cross-ice format, using barriers at the red line to create two smaller rinks. Tournaments after January 1 can use a full ice surface.

“Our tournament has always been the first weekend of December, so if we hold a tournament that weekend, it’ll be a cross-ice tournament,” noted Eastman.
