Rackets were swung and matches were won during last weekend’s Bird Bash badminton tournament at Hapnot Collegiate.
Matches for the annual tournament took place at all four Flin Flon schools, with 85 athletes from across northern Manitoba taking part.
Jemedie Morris was the only Hapnot player to reach a final, losing to Erica Anderson from Thompson in the junior varsity girls’ final.
The Snow Lake duo of Kyla Spruyt and Tessa Sass took the junior girls’ doubles title for Joseph H Kerr School. Spruyt later teamed up with Gregory Carswell to win the junior mixed doubles title for Joseph H Kerr.
The next tournament on the calendar is the Zone 11 tourney from April 28 to 29 in Thompson. Players from 17 schools are eligible, hoping to earn spots in the provincial championships May 5 and 6 in Winnipeg.
