Phone outage sparks anger for cabin owners

Ponton station a loss after major fire
A fire has destroyed a major supply stop on Highway 39. The Ponton Service Station is now considered a complete loss after a fire tore through the gas station and convenience store on July 28.

Reed Mine sees last haul before shutdown
After five years of operation, Hudbay’s Reed Mine is closed. The Reed Mine, one of three mines majority-owned and operated by Hudbay in northern Manitoba, ceased production at the end of July.

Herbicide spraying to begin in area
Canadian Kraft Paper (CKP) plans to restart herbicide spraying operations near Flin Flon. The company, based in The Pas, will spray the herbicide glyphosate in multiple areas where CKP conducted logging operations in the past.

The dog days of summer have left the Flin Flon/Creighton and Area SPCA shelter full, with no room for more dogs or cats. “We are definitely full, for both cats and dogs. We’re at our capacity,” said Erica Husberg, SPCA president.

Members of the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service made arrests relating to drugs in three separate incidents in Manitoba earlier this month. On July 19, a 21-year-old man from Flin Flon was arrested after an incident in Winnipeg.
