Members of the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service made arrests relating to drugs in three separate incidents in Manitoba earlier this month.

On July 19, a 21-year-old man from Flin Flon was arrested after an incident in Winnipeg.

The incident took place near a construction area in downtown Winnipeg, near the intersection of Albert Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Police spotted two men after one man ran through a barricade, colliding with a Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) vehicle and hitting the vehicle’s side mirror.

Officers got out of the vehicle to check on the man, while the second man checked the vehicle for damage. After an ambulance was called for the man who collided with the vehicle, one male attempted to pass what WPS described as “a clear plastic baggie with a white substance” to the other male. Officers spotted the move and arrested them both.

The 21-year-old faces charges of possession of a scheduled substance and failure to comply with conditions of recognizance, while the 48-year-old faces a charge of possession of a scheduled substance.

Police have identified the 21-year-old as a Flin Flon resident. The 48-year-old is identified by WPS as being from Alberta.

Both were held at Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Police from Wabowden received a report of a vehicle driving erratically near the junction of Highway 6 and Highway 39 on July 13. When RCMP located and stopped the vehicle on Provincial Road 373, an officer saw one of the vehicle’s occupants toss a small bag out of the vehicle.

The bag was recovered in the ditch and found to contain cocaine. Another bag of cocaine was also found near the vehicle.

Police seized the drugs, and found open liquor, cell phones, money, drug paraphernalia and around 57 grams of cocaine in and around the vehicle.

Four males were inside the vehicle – three of them, a 28-year-old from Norway House, a 34-year-old from Thompson and a 26-year-old from The Pas, were arrested and face multiple drug-related charges

The fourth occupant of the vehicle, another male, ran from the scene and was not found by police. In a statement, Manitoba RCMP said police were still searching for him.

Two days earlier, two people were arrested on Opaskwayak Cree Nation after RCMP executed a search warrant at a home on Jebbs Drive. Inside the home, RCMP from The Pas and OCN seized six grams of cocaine, a rifle and ammunition, drug paraphernalia, money and between 500 and 600 assorted pills.

A 26-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested. The man faces eight charges, including four counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, possession for purpose of trafficking cocaine and multiple other weapons charges. The woman also faces eight charges, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and drug offences. Both are currently in RCMP custody.
