Two area residents have been arrested as a result of hateful and threatening language against residents of First Nations communities on social media.
A 32-year-old female from Flin Flon and a 25-year-old female from Denare Beach were arrested by Flin Flon RCMP on July 31 for uttering threats and public incitement of hatred.
A third arrest is pending for the same charges.
In a press release issued July 31, RCMP said all three people were cooperating with police.
On July 29, several reports of mischief and vandalism to vehicles and property were reported in Flin Flon. Multiple people took to personal Facebook pages and a community Facebook page and made posts that the RCMP characterized as “hateful and threatening language against residents of First Nations communities.”
Some posts made to the Flin Flon Post It Facebook page during that day mentioned instituting a “shoot a Indian day” and calling for a “24 hour purge.”
The posts, as well as the page are no longer publicly available.
RCMP could not release or confirm the identities of those involved, because the charges have not been sworn before a court.
A release from the RCMP noted that names will become public record as soon as the charges have been sworn.
The Reminder will have more information in its Aug. 8 issue.
