Good morning, Flin Flon (or good evening, if you don’t read The Reminder till you get home from work). We have lots of very cool stuff coming up in the arts and culture scene in the next two weeks, much of which is Culture Days-related.

And now it’s September! Seriously folks, summer is done and we are into the fall season of arts and culture.

Nobody would accuse Crystal Kolt of lacking ambition. Seven years in to the annual celebration, the cultural coordinator of the Flin Flon Arts Council has plenty of fresh ideas for this year’s Culture Days.

Embrace your roots. That’s the message of local author Harry Hobbs’ latest self-published novel, Circle of Roots. “A lot of people I know are sort of ashamed of their roots, of who they are and what their families are,” says Hobbs.

Lots of great events coming in the next two weeks to the Flin Flon/Creighton/Denare Beach region.

After more than five decades as an artist, Monique Rainville is still learning.

Some wonderful and surprising performances are coming up in the first week of August – evidence, I believe, of how far Flin Flon/Creighton/Denare Beach have come in support of the arts and culture in the past few years.

What do you get when you combine hip-hop, spoken word, dance, folk music, tradition and a message of hope? On Tuesday, August 1, area residents will get the chance to find out.

The Trout Festival/Homecoming weekend was awesome.

Homecoming is just around the corner – like tomorrow! There are so many arts-related events happening over the next few days that it would strain the bounds of my little column to list them all.
