Close to 200 family and friends were on hand at the Snow Lake Elks Hall on July 26 to help René Lamontagne celebrate his 85 birthday. It was quite the affair.

In these increasingly partisan times, there are precious few opportunities to set politics aside when discussing political figures.

Dear Editor, First I want to acknowledge the much-needed work being done on Highway 10 coming into Flin Flon. The improvements will improve public safety for motorists on many difficult turns.

Dear Editor, When Employment Minister Jason Kenney announced changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), he said migrant workers should be the last resort for businesses when hiring.

Trevor Miller We’re renting, so the increases are not something we see directly, but they would influence where we purchase.

Property taxes are hitting Flin Flonners with more disproportionate force than any other government levy. Income taxes fall if you lose your job and start earning less money.

There are a couple of items of note for this week’s column.

Dear Editor, In the spring, I commented on the new tax levy and other taxes that we were yet to hear about. We are now able to ascertain the full impact of these tax increases.

We all know that healthy eating is important. Our government is working hard to ensure that Canadians have the information necessary to make the right food choices for ourselves and our children.
