After nearly eight decades in Flin Flon and Snow Lake, Betty Stringer has left her mark on the region in countless ways. But as she prepares to embark on a new chapter in her life, she can also reflect on the mark she has left on the world.

Mother Nature was a sweetheart as hundreds of residents took in the Flin Flon area’s most aptly titled winter celebration over the weekend.

Whether it’s making that iconic volcano erupt with baking soda and vinegar or weighing the benefits of a flu shot, science projects have been a school staple for decades.

A large hole in the ice is usually a hazard to avoid, but it will be just the opposite for participants in an upcoming Flin Flon Trout Festival fundraiser. The festival will hold the area’s first ever Polar Bear Dare on March 21.

Sunshine was a big factor in this past weekend’s Denare Beach Winter Festival as outdoor activities like the family fishing derby and horse-drawn sleigh rides were much more enjoyable.
