Festival at Denare Beach pulls out all the stops for a weekend of winter fun

Sunshine was a big factor in this past weekend’s Denare Beach Winter Festival as outdoor activities like the family fishing derby and horse-drawn sleigh rides were much more enjoyable.

As always, the sleigh rides were a big hit as two horses, led by a driver, took passengers from the Denareplex through Denare Beach on a roughly 10-minute ride.

Hay bails were set along the flatbed to give a more authentic feel as children and adults alike enjoyed the rides.

Returning to the Winter Festival, after a few years absent, were the Snow Drags. Crowds formed on the ice at the Main Beach to watch heats of snowmobile races while cheering on their favourite riders.

Cordelia Osmond earned top spot in
the Kids Got Talent contest this year, the festival’s second time running the event.

The Dale Holmgren rink was the winner of Turkey Curling with teammates Mel and Mike Durette and Jen Feuerstein cashing in on the prize, too.

Mark Lake picked up two prizes this year in the fishing derby with the Largest Fish at 2.1 pounds and the Most Fish.

Trina Senyk snagged the Smallest Fish award with a two-pound catch.

Ed Andrusiak picked up the title for Oldest Fisherman.

Marty Streitle was this year’s winner of the Family Poker Derby with the eldest entry coming from Eric Wallaker and the youngest from Halle Norman.

Kyle Dubinak and Jen Feurestein were both winners in the King and Queen Trapper events.
