For years the City of Flin Flon has asked the NDP government to give Manitoba municipalities the right to charge a base property tax. For years the NDP has said no. The reason is ideology.

Dear Editor, I read The Reminder’s column suggesting that the overturning of Mr. Spence’s will was an unfortunate event and treads on his posthumous rights to assign his estate (A misguided ruling, Feb. 2).

It was my pleasure, recently, to announce that 120 First Nations youths in Saskatchewan will receive personalized job readiness supports through our Government’s Economic Action Plan.

Dear Editor, Re: “Waste debate focuses on radiation” Jan. 28. It was disingenuous of presenter Jeremy Whitlock to imply that natural background radiation is of little concern. Indeed, the medical community regards it as a very serious concern.

Dear Editor, Re: “Waste debate focuses on radiation,” Jan. 28. As his CV indicates, Jeremy Whitlock has a career within the nuclear industry. He is a persuasive speaker, but he can also be wrong.

So much for respecting one’s final wishes. An Ontario judge last week overturned the last will and testament of Rector Emanuel Spence because he didn’t like Spence’s rationale for leaving his wealth to one daughter instead of both.

The Snow Lake Canadian Ranger Patrol had the honour of officially kicking off the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group’s (CRPG) Western Spirit II Exercise on the morning of Jan. 19.

Even when you’re pretty sure something is true, the verification can come as a shock. It always seemed to me as though smoking was far more common in the Flin Flon area than in Canada at large.
