Bright sunshine and warm temperatures greeted skiers at the 40th annual Val and Ivor Hedman Centaloppet Sunday at the Flin Flon Ski Club. This year the event was renamed to honour its founders and long-time supporters, Val and Ivor Hedman.

Flin Flon Nordic skier Nick Martin recently competed in the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Martin joined Saskatchewan’s cross-country ski team earlier in the winter. At the Games held in Prince George, BC, he took part in three different races.

SJHL hands out hardware

Hapnot Collegiate’s northern rivals triumphed at the JV Basketball Zones in Flin Flon last weekend.

In dumping the Nipawin Hawks 5-2 on Tuesday, the Flin Flon Bombers clinched fifth place overall and a date with the Notre Dame Hounds in the SJHL quarter-finals .

The Tim Hortons Brier wasn’t the only source of curling excitement over the weekend. Sixteen rinks entered the 83rd Annual Flin Flon Ladies’ Bonspiel, but by the time the final ends were played Sunday, only three slid away with a trophy in hand.
