Hapnot Collegiate’s northern rivals triumphed at the JV Basketball Zones in Flin Flon last weekend.

The Thompson Trojans girls’ team defeated the Hapnot Kopper Kweens in the final while the Trojans boys’ teams downed The Pas for the tournament titles.

The Kweens fared well in the round-robin play with a 2-1 record, but the Kopper Kings struggled with a 1-2 record after round-robin play.

The Kweens went on to defeat Cross Lake 42-40 in a close semi-final game. The girls moved on to the finals but lost to Thompson in overtime, giving the Trojans the 50-43 win.

Following a tough round-robin series, the Kings hoped to redeem themselves against The Pas in the semi-finals but came up empty-handed with a 59-30 deficit.

The Pas went on to the boys’ final but couldn’t claim the win as Thompson took its second zone title of the weekend.

Both Thompson teams will now play in Provincials later this month.
