The release of Manitoba’s provincial budget has left some questions hanging in the air for the north. This year’s budget, hyped up by Premier Brian Pallister as the “best budget ever,” was released to the public on March 12.

For one day at École McIsaac School, students switched roles and taught the lessons themselves. It was all part of the school’s fifth annual Heritage Fair, an event meant to allow kids to learn more about the history of their country.

The Flin Flon Fire Department saw a 28 per cent uptick in calls in 2017 over the previous year. Over the year, the department received a total of 74 calls – a significant increase over the 53 it responded to in 2016.

A teenager has been arrested in connection with an assault in Denare Beach. The 14-year-old male was arrested without incident on March 20 in Flin Flon. “Public support is what led to us finding this first kid,” said Creighton RCMP Sgt. Sean McPhee.

Creighton RCMP have seen a common theme in the area through February: fewer people are committing crimes. RCMP monthly reports for February obtained by The Reminder show a noticeable decline in offences from last year.

Manitobans may soon be paying more for their electricity – and Saskatchewan residents already are. SaskPower has increased rates by 3.5 per cent as of Mar. 1. The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel announced the increase in January.
