Creighton RCMP have seen a common theme in the area through February: fewer people are committing crimes.

RCMP monthly reports for February obtained by The Reminder show a noticeable decline in offences from last year. “Overall, we’re down 30 per cent in our crime statistics over the same period last year,” said RCMP Sgt. Sean McPhee.

More than 60 different calls came in to the Creighton RCMP department last month, an average of just over two calls per day, with 31 total calls coming from Creighton. The other files were reported from Denare Beach, Amisk Lake and Sturgeon Landing.

In Creighton, one assault call was filed when two intoxicated people were fighting near the Creighton Liquor Store. After both sobered up, RCMP laid other charges.

A vehicle was stolen from Creighton. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident, but RCMP report that there are leads in the incident.

Three other thefts were reported, including a shoplifting case at the liquor store, a propane heater being taken from a garage and a bank card having been reported stolen at a party. Six people received tickets for public intoxication.

RCMP also received a report of a sexual assault, but determined after investigating that the alleged incident had not taken place.

One sudden death was reported and ruled as not suspicious.

In Denare Beach, one break and enter was called in to RCMP. No arrests have yet been made in the incident.

“The detachment hopes to have charges on the matter in the near future,” reads the RCMP’s report for the municipality of Denare Beach.

Three mischief calls were also reported, including an instance of a male smashing the windows out of another person’s vehicle.

Five mischiefs were reported at Amisk Lake, with another call – an assault – proven to be unfounded.

RCMP allege that most offenses at Amisk Lake come from one area.

“A common trend in the community is that a single house is the cause of a large portion of our calls for service,” reads the report.

Three calls came from Sturgeon Landing, including a missing persons report for a male who hadn’t returned home from a snowmobile trip. The man returned home shortly before RCMP began search efforts.
