With more ridings reporting results, the Canadian Press and The Reminder can now project that Canada’s next federal government will be a Liberal minority. As of 10:20 p.m.

The Reminder and the Canadian Press’ projection for Desnethé-Missinipi-Churchill River says Conservative candidate Gary Vidal is likely to represent northern Saskatchewan in Ottawa.

The Reminder and the Canadian Press are projecting that NDP candidate Niki Ashton has won her fourth straight federal election. With 41 of 155 polls reporting as of 10 p.m.

The riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River could keep residents and election junkies up late. Liberal Tammy Cook-Searson is in the lead, which has been ping ponging back and forth between her and the Conservative’s Gary Vidal. As of 9:40 p.m.

It’s all but official. The Canadian Press, along with the Flin Flon Reminder and multiple other news outlets, has projected that the Liberal Party of Canada will win tonight’s federal election and form government. As of 9:20 p.m.

Federal election results have started to trickle out in the northern ridings. Conservative Party candidate Gary Vidal has struck an early lead, but with only a tiny fraction of polls reporting. No candidates are above 50 votes so far.

One federal political candidate with Flin Flon ties has been soundly defeated. George Canyon, best known as an award-winning country singer, was beaten in the riding of Central Nova, covering his hometown of New Glasgow, N.S.

Polls have closed across western Canada, including in northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Ballot boxes in more than 200 ridings have shut down, with only people currently in line at polling locations still eligible to vote in this year’s election.

Ninety minutes after the first polls in Canada closed, it’s been a mixed bag for the federal parties. According to the Canadian Press at 7:30 p.m.

Days before Canadian adults went to the polls, students had a chance to do the same.
