Young arsonists charged

RCMP have charged four male youths with arson following a recent school fire in The Pas. All of the accused – a 12-year-old, two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old – are residents of The Pas.

New teachers hired

With some support from the Selinger government, school divisions across Manitoba have now hired more than 300 additional teachers to comply with the province’s cap on early-years class sizes.

Eye exams covered

Creighton and Denare Beach residents with diabetes now have provincial coverage for annual eye exams. The provincial government brought in the new coverage for all Saskatchewanians effective Oct. 1.

Education Minister James Allum yesterday unveiled Closing the Achievement Gap: Success for Every Student, an action plan the province hopes will improve academic achievement for all Manitoba students.

Hudbay shares oversold: Forbes

Flin Flon’s mayoral candidates will square off in a public forum next week. The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce will host the forum next Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7 pm at the city hall council chambers.
