Dear Editor, I would like to congratulate Bill Hanson for his 19 years of service on Flin Flon city council.

Although greenery and trees have been used to celebrate the winter solstice for thousands of years, the Christmas tree tradition of bringing the tree indoors was started by Christians in the 16th century in Germany.

Dear Editor: As a teacher, musician and now parent, I am saddened, disappointed and completely frustrated with provincial health minister Cameron Friesen.

This past week I was honoured to once again represent the Government of Canada at the Remembrance Day commemoration in Thompson. Remembrance Day is one of the most important days of the year.

Most local stores are ready for Christmas shoppers with lights, decorations and gift items for sale, while Christmas trees are beginning to appear in home windows.

On behalf of Branch No. 73 of the Royal Canadian Legion we wish to convey our appreciation to all those who participated in our parade on Sunday past. A bitterly cold wind did not prevent another fine turnout.

It’s been an interesting, challenging and rewarding year. Since I started at The Reminder 13 months ago, so much has happened in Flin Flon.

The numbers are in, and Flin Flon is in for four more years of...pretty much the same. Last Wednesday, 1,161 people went to the polls to vote in a (sort of) new municipal council.

We need to do more to support education. That has been my message as Member of Parliament for a region. We have one of the youngest regions in our country.

This column space has had plenty of discussion about elections and municipal politics for the last several weeks to raise awareness of the general municipal election that happens in Flin Flon today, Wednesday, Oct. 24.
