Viola Jane Zielke - Jane passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2013 at St. Anthony's Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 64 years, with her family by her side. Viola Jane was born Friday, September 2, 1949 at Clare, Michigan, USA, to Red and Viola Johnson. Jane met Ernie in 1983, and they were united in marriage April 10, 1985. Jane was a hairdresser from 1965 to 1988 and during this time owned and operated two salons, Ricky's and Jane's Nu Yu. She started a new career with Corrections in 1988. In 1996 she went to the Sherriff's Department working with them until 2006. Jane's passion at heart was quilting and anything to do with fabric. She opened her own business, Jane's Crafts and Hobbies in 1997 and together with her 'private mover' Ernie, they travelled to four locations in town; starting at the west side of the old Parker's Store, then moving to the Uptown Mall, Fisher Avenue and eventually calling their present location on Edwards Avenue, 'home', after Ernie purchased the building for Jane. This would guarantee no more moves. Ernie would tease Jane that they should change the store name to 'Gypsies Crafts and Hobbies' as they moved locations so frequently, it could be anyone's guess where the store would end up next. Jane was a hard worker. She was a very good cook and her specialty was 'Greek ribs'. Jane enjoyed many hours on the back of the motorcycle behind the 'love of her life and best friend' Ernie, relishing the freedom of travel and the many different motorcycle events they attended. She liked the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing at local areas. Jane's main motivation for journeying through her illness was the love from and for her family. A big check on her 'bucket' list was the purchase of their pontoon boat in 2013. Jane is survived by her husband Ernie; son Rick Rousson (Holly) and Cooper; daughter Tracy (Dennis) Fortin and Derrick, Monique, and Krista; daughter Colleen Zielke (Greg); mother Viola Johnson; sister Judy Chesney; and brother Lee Johnson. Jane was predeceased by her father Red Johnson. In keeping with Jane's wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate her life was held Friday, October 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, The Pas, Manitoba with James Hemauer presiding. Memories of the heart were shared by Sue Harper. Immediately following the service, a reception was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall. If friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2B7, would be appreciated by Jane's family. Hemauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, The Pas, were in care of arrangements. For online condolences, visit www.hemauerfuneralhome.com
