(May 18, 1933 - February 15, 2016)
Vera Irene (Slade) Bourque

“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”

 - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Irene (Slade) Bourque on February 15, 2016, surrounded by family and a good friend.

Vera is finally reunited with her husband Joseph Bourque and eldest daughter Judy (both predeceased).  She is survived by her loving daughters Denise Jones (Alan) and Lorie Stefan,  and beloved grandchildren Lindsay Fera (Mike), Kyle Jones (Alana), Megan Krajnak (Josh) and Patrick Stefan.  She was a very special Gigi to Sebastian and Kipton Fera, Noah, Luca and Aliyah Jones and Eloise Krajnak.

Vera was born into a family of 11 children. She is survived by brothers Gordon Slade (Pat) and John Slade (Pat) and predeceased by 8 siblings.  Vera is also survived by extended family Geraldine Bourque, Brenda Aubin (Paul), Eileen Levert (Denis) and Yvette Bourque (late Eddie).  She was a very special aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Vera was full of spunk and character.  In her early years she loved to curl, and she enjoyed many years of golfing with friends at the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Club.  She loved to garden, go for long walks and was an avid fan of hockey and the Soo Greyhounds. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye.

The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at the F.J. Davey Home for the terrific care given to Vera over the past two years.  Special thanks to Beth Watson and Aldine Spina for the laughter and memories shared with Vera and also to the Pucci family for their special friendship.   Thank you to Jack Denneny for bringing a piece of St. Matthews Anglican Church to Vera during her time at the Davey Home.

Friends may call at St. Mathews Anglican Church on Friday February 19 at 2 p.m.  Service to follow at 3 p.m.  Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre.  Memorial contributions to the SAH Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.  Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.northwoodfuneral.com.
