Predeceased by parents, husband Charlie, brother Lawrence, sister Joyce and grandson Cody Somers, Kay is survived by her children, Glenn (Ellen) of Victoria, BC, Heather (Bart) Somers, Garry, Bob (Cathy) of Chile, Michelle (Ric) Reid; grandsons Nicholas and Jason Somers, Jon (Kara J) Reid, and great granddaughter Lorelei Reid.
She was born April 4, 1925, in the Marais district of Southern Manitoba, and educated at Maras, Letellier and Emerson schools. She attended normal school and taught at Lloyd George, Orangehill in southern Manitoba, and in Flin Flon.
Kay met and married Charlie in 1948. They moved to Winnipeg in 1982 when Charlie was transferred to Midwest office. She returned to Flin Flon in 2004 after Charlie passed away.
Kay enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and sewing. While in Winnipeg, she knit over 200 pairs of mitts and toques, which were sent to schools in core areas.
Mass of Christian Burial was held September 10, 2013, at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Flin Flon, with Father Paul Bringleson as Celebrant. Memories of Mom were presented by Cathy Mahoney. Ushers were Bart Leifso and Andrew Lam. Memorial register attendants were Gladys Zerbin and Hermaine Maslowski. Honourary pallbearers were the Catholic Women’s League family and friends.
Following the service, the Catholic Women’s League served a lunch in the parish hall.
Interment followed at Ross Park Cemetary.
Northern Manitoba’s only crematorium, Dadson Funeral Home & Crematorium, was entrusted with the arrangements. (204) 687-5821
