Harold Jackson
1934-2014
The family of Harold Morris (Bud) Jackson are greatly saddened to announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother on Saturday, August 30, 2014 in Swan River, MB.
Bud was predeceased by his parents May and Bob Jackson; his wife Leni Jackson (nee McClelland); daughter Marjorie; grandson Rickie Mondor; sister Ruth (and Ruben) Maxwell; brother-in-law Carl Pangrass and sister-in-law Ann Jackson. He is survived by his sisters Isabel Pangrass and Marjorie (Mike) Zelent, of Edmonton, AB, and brother Bob (Bernice) Jackson of The Pas, MB. Also by his children Lynn (Bill) Coupland of Benito, MB, Jordan Jackson of Peterborough, ON, Pat (Terry) Jackson of Hartney, MB and son-in-law Barry Patten of Cranberry Portage, MB, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many foster children/grandchildren and chosen family.
Bud was born on October 9, 1934 in The Pas, MB, where he went to school. Bud enrolled in the Royal Canadian Navy at HMCS Chippewa in Winnipeg, MB on July 10, 1953. His first posting was to Cornwallis, NS. Bud and Leni (who was in the Royal Canadian Air Force) were married in the Anglican Church in Cornwallis, NS on August 28, 1956 (the military chaplain was unavailable, but they would not be stopped, and a good thing, as they spent 48 years together). He spent six years in the RCN finishing as a Leading Seaman in Esquimalt, BC. After the Navy, Bud went back to the north, living and raising his family in Creighton, SK and working 34 years for Hudson’s Bay Mining & Smelting Company in Flin Flon, MB and some time on the side as the Creighton town constable, as well as running his own greenhouse.
Bud had many pastimes, most notably his beautiful woodwork and his love of plants. In 2007 Bud retired for the second (or third, or fourth, it is hard to count) time and moved south to Benito, MB to be closer to his family. He quickly went back to work in Lynn’s Greenhouse and enjoyed all of his time there, sharing his knowledge and being with family.
Bud, may you have fair winds and following seas, you have begun your next great adventure.
At Bud’s request there will not be a service; he would like all of us to remember him fondly. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Swan Valley Health Facilities Foundation’s Chemotherapy Program.
