Essie Eileen Douglas
Mrs. Essie Eileen Douglas passed away in peace at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 80 years, surrounded by family, on November 14, 2013. Essie was born in Bowsman in 1933 and moved to Flin Flon in 1945. Essie was predeceased by her husband Bob and her son Harold; her parents Chester and Cora Hall; brother Harold and sister Baby Irene.
Essie is fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by 5 children Raymond (Darlene), Sheila (Doug), Calvin (Linda), Rick (Brenda) and Ron. She also leaves behind her 14 grandchildren Wendy, Jerry, Lyle, Chris, Andy, Mark, Scott, Adam, Jacob, Melissa, Shelby, Amber, Shane and Brendan as well as 13 great grandchildren Ethan, Emma, Kyler, Brook, Gregory, Jackson, Brooklyn, Austin, Makenzy, Kailah, Dustin, Haley, Bryce and Daulton.
Essie had many interests and a strong sense of leadership. She was very active in organizations such as Civil Air Search and Rescue in Flin Flon. She was also involved in the Legion, The Rebeka’s and the Museum in Gladstone. Her working years were spent with Canada Post in Flin Flon. Essie raised her family in Flin Flon, summering at her cabin on Amisk Lake. She retired and moved to Gladstone in 1997, and then moved to Portage la Prairie in 2008.
A Celebration of Essie’s Life was held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Gladstone United Church with Lynne Sanderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Essie’s memory to the Central Plains Cancer Care.
Thanks are given to the Portage General Hospital medical staff for all the care and comfort which was extended to Essie during her stay with them.
Our dear mother will always be loved and remembered.
