As the Creighton Sportex was transformed for the Xtreme Cage Wars Saturday night, fighters and fans waited for the night to start. Although the fights were pushed back an hour, co-organizer Brad Burke says things went pretty well. ÒThe fights were OK. It took a little while to get going, but overall I had some positive feedback,Ó he says. While this was the first time Burke has been involved in something like this, he says it was what he expected. ÒI guess you can say that,Ó he says. ÒWhen it is amateur fights you donÕt expect them to go more than one round.Ó But it wasnÕt all roses. ÒI was told there was going to be more fights, so I was disappointed with the amount,Ó he says. Originally on the docket there were ten fights, but as the night came closer the final number was narrowed down to five. But Burke isnÕt giving up as he will be putting his name on the event in June, but hopefully with some changes. ÒI would like to have more hands on,Ó he says, as this event was planned mainly by phone from Flin Flin to Saskatoon. ÒI would want my name on it if there are more fights,Ó he says. ÒItÕs a lot of money... and (I) would want to see at least 10 next time.Ó As for the show in June, which will run along side of the reunion, Burke says he will be talking to local fighters to try to draw an interest in town. ÒI will give it one more shot,Ó he says about the fights in June. Burke says he did walk away with a few lessons learned from the event in Creighton. ÒItÕs a lot of work to put on. A lot of work and a lot of dedication to get something like this to work,Ó he says. But next time he hopes to see more organization. ÒEverything was way behind schedule. And with me not knowing what to do I couldnÕt just stand up and organize it,Ó he says. Results Mixed Martial Art Bout 135 lbs 2 Rounds x 5 Min Denny Senyk def.
