It may be a few months late, but Carson Lee has hit the podium at a world championship event.

Lee has been awarded the bronze medal for the 2018 United World Wrestling (UWW) Cadet World Championship, which was held in Croatia last July.

Lee originally lost the bronze medal match to Milan Korcsog of Hungary, placing him just off the podium. However, the eventual gold medallist, Russia’s Dmitrii Elkanov, was disqualified in August after testing positive for the substance dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone. Elkanov’s gold medal was forfeited as a result of the test and the wrestler has been banned from competition for four years.

The disqualification caused a ripple effect down the field, with Iranian wrestler Mohammadreza Ghiyasi claiming gold, Korcsog moving to silver and Lee moving up to a bronze. Wrestling Canada Lutte officially announced Lee’s medal win on Dec. 19.

Lee wrestled Elkanov in the quarterfinal round, with Elkanov winning and putting Lee in the repechage round.
