Flin Flon’s most noted wrestlers got back on the mat at the recent Canada Cup tournament in Calgary.

Both Carson and Hunter Lee took part in the junior level tournament, held at the University of Calgary June 30.

Hunter took part in the tournament in the 86-kilogram weight class. He won his initial match against Jamaican entrant Angus Arthur 6-5, but was taken down 10-0 by eventual champ Ahmed Shamiya. The loss put Hunter into the consolation round, which he began withaonesided 11-0 victory over Shin Dongmin of South Korea. That set up another match with Arthur. Sadly for Hunter, Arthur got the best of him in the rematch, with Hunter losing 6-3 and finishing fourth.

Carson, just days removed from earning his diploma at Hapnot Collegiate’s graduation ceremony, was one of two entries in the 79-kilogram group. In the only match in the group, Carson faced off with Brock Badger university wrestler Ty Bridgwater, four years Carson’s senior. The match ended in a 11-1 loss for the Flin Flon entrant.

The brothers will continue training ahead of major international competitions later this year and before joining forces at the University of Saskatchewan in the fall.
