Hapnot Collegiate and Frontier Collegiate had spirited runs during recent senior provincial basketball tournaments.

The Hapnot senior Kweens, fresh off winning a Zone 11 title, entered their tournament in Pine Falls as the seventh seed. Facing stiff competition, the Kweens lost their first game to the second-seeded Goose Lake High Angels from Roblin 51-37.

With their hopes of provincial glory dashed, the Kweens entered the relegation round, facing the Souris/Deloraine Co-op team and beating them 65-35. The win sent Hapnot into the consolation final, setting up a match against the fourth seed MacGregor Mustangs.

Hapnot won 63-45, earning fifth place overall and winning the consolation round.

Northern Manitoba was represented by the Frontier Collegiate Raiders at senior boys’ provincials in Winnipeg at Immanuel Christian School. The Raiders started off proceedings against the Green Valley Pirates. The Pirates provided little resistance for the third-seeded Raiders, who won 60-41 to advance to the semis.

With a spot in the finals on the line, Frontier came up just short against the Niverville Panthers, who took the Raiders down 67-60. Niverville would go on to win the provincial title with a win against Carman in the finals.

Frontier was then sent to the third place game against the Steinbach Christian Flames.

Steinbach won that game 71-65, sending the Raiders off the podium with a fourth-place finish.
