Flin Flonner Lies scores first major junior goal

Things continue to go well for Flin Flon’s Justin Lies. The Vancouver Giants forward scored the first goal of his young WHL career Oct. 5, adding a marker during the team’s game against the Winnipeg Ice.

Lies scored his first junior hockey goal halfway through the first period of the Giants’ 4-0 win against the Winnipeg Ice. On a two-on-one rush with teammate Jackson Shepard, Lies fired a shot past Ice netminder Gage Alexander to etch his name in WHL’s stat books.

Lies, a 15-year-old right wing, was born and raised in Flin Flon, playing for Flin Flon and Norman representative teams before moving to Winnipeg last year to play in the Canadian Sport Schools Hockey League (CSSHL) with Rink Hockey Academy.

Not only did the goal come in the city Lies played in last season, it came against a team stocked with former teammates. Defenceman Carson Lambos played for the Ice in the Oct. 5 game. He played with Lies last year both at Rink Hockey Academy and with Team Manitoba at the Canada Winter Games.

While Lies is the youngest player on the Vancouver’s roster, he stands a good chance of remaining with the team well into the season. The Giants have 13 forwards on the roster, including Lies, with no other forwards expected to return to the team from the professional ranks.
