Things aren't looking too hot for the Bombers in The Reminder's simulation of the SJHL playoffs. Down 2-0 in the finals to Battlefords, the Bombers squandered an early lead to fall 6-3 to the Stars in Game 3.
Flin Flon snagged an early lead on the game's first shot, with Donavan Houle-Villeneuve breaking through and beating Stars netminder Kristian Lyon five-hole. A few minutes later, Chase Haygarth got on the board, making it 2-0 Bombers.
Late in the period, the Battlefords North Stars cut the lead in half. Walter Somers in real life may not be an offensive defenceman, but simulated Somers stepped into the slot and beat Delorme with a shot that got past Bomber goalie Jacob Delorme. The game was still 2-1 Bombers entering the second.
A minute into the first, Quintin Loon-Stewardson tied the game on a powerplay, teaming up with brother Elijah to score on a rebound.
The Bombers would claw back the lead, with Houle-Villeneuve capitalizing on an open puck near the net and beating Lyon. Elijah Loon-Stewardson answered back for the Stars, tying the game back up barely a minute after Houle-Villeneuve's goal.
It was in the third period where the North Stars pulled away. Jaxon Steele found the net early in the third period, then Rylan Nivon scored in the same rink he grew up playing in, making it 5-3 Battlefords. Timon Prexler scored an insurance goal to end the night, giving the SJHL's top team a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
Delorme made 44 saves on the night, while Lyon made 40 stops.
The Stars will have a chance to win the series Wednesday night, when the two teams hit the ice (via technology, of course) for Game 4. The game will be streamed at The Reminder's Twitch channel at twitch.tv/FFReminder.
