One dead after Sturgeon Landing crash

A 31-year-old woman from Sturgeon Landing is dead following an early morning truck collision on Aug. 31.

Cranberry Portage RCMP were called to a crash site between Sturgeon Landing and Highway 10 around 8:30 am and discovered a pick-up truck that had left the road, hit a ditch and belted a tree. Alcohol is suspected to have played a factor in the crash.

Three occupants were inside the truck at the time of the crash, all women from Sturgeon Landing. The 31-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Another occupant, a 53-year-old, was taken to hospital with serious injury.

The driver, a 49-year-old, was uninjured and faces charges of impaired driving of a motor vehicle causing death and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

RCMP is investigating the collision.
