Brandt Weldon’s hockey career played a role in his future occupation.

A product of The Pas, Weldon is pursuing a doctor of chiropractice degree at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Edina, Minn. Weldon’s hockey career included almost three seasons on the Flin Flon Bombers blue line.

“Chiropractice became an interest of mine while playing hockey,” he said. “It played a large part in keeping my body healthy day in and day out. It was so beneficial to myself in both my athletic performance and daily life that I wanted to provide people with that same care.”

After playing midget AAA hockey in Prince Albert, Weldon started his junior career with the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. After 18 games in his first season in 2010-2011, he was traded to Flin Flon. Weldon posted 31 points in his first full season with team and was a key veteran in his final campaign.

“Playing for the Bombers was a great experience overall,” he said. “The best part about playing for the Bombers was the atmosphere at the rink. The community support for the team in such a small town shows through every night at the rink and it makes playing home games unlike anything else in the hockey world.”

With the Bombers, Weldon earned the opportunity to play NCAA Division III hockey. He suited up for four seasons at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon. An assistant captain for the Falcons, he graduated in 2017 with an exercise physiology degree.

Weldon said playing college hockey was great, but his favourite part “was being a student athlete. Like junior hockey and the community support, the peer support from your classmates was phenomenal. It was a pretty cool experience to play in front of the people you sit next to in class on a daily basis.”
