Bombers bag three straight wins, rocket up standings

Team comes home riding seven-game winning streak
recap 3

The Flin Flon Bombers' weekend went like a pitcher's perfect inning - three up, three down.

Flin Flon won all three of their games this weekend, scoring 15 goals combined while only giving up six.

The Bombers kicked off the weekend with a 5-2 beating of the Melville Millionaires on Jan. 18, with captain Nate Hooper leading the way with two goals. Daylan Marchi, Billy Klymchuk and Calvon Boots each popped pucks past Mils goalie Colby Entz. Vincent Nardone finished with two assists.

One night later, the Bombers took down the fast-paced Yorkton Terriers 5-3. The Bombers' big guns came to play early, with Boots, Brandson Hein and Nardone each lighting the lamp before Yorkton got on the board. Chrystopher Collin and Marchi also added goals later on. Isaac Jackson had a two assist night.

Then on Sunday, the Bombers returned to Melville and laid a 5-1 whuppin' on the Millionaires. Hein and Cade Kowalski finished with two goals and an assist each in a game where the Bombers overcame an early 1-0 deficit and scored five unanswered goals.

Flin Flon's goalie tandem of Gabriel Waked and Jacob Delorme impressed during the weekend. Waked won the first two games, beginning his time in Saskatchewan hockey with three straight wins.

No team is riding a better wave of quality play than the Bombers right now. The team will head back north on a seven-game winning streak, winning eight of their last ten games and leading the SJHL in goals scored by a significant margin over the Terriers. One of the effects of the recent hot streak can be found in the standings, where the Bombers have leapfrogged Melfort for second place in the Sherwood Division.

The Bombers, now with 56 points in 42 games, are one point up on the Mustangs in the same number of games. The Nipawin Hawks have a stranglehold on the division and league leads with 62 points in 44 games.

Flin Flon is also now tied with the Battlefords North Stars for second place in the league point standings. However, due to the SJHL's overall standing structure, the Bombers are currently placed fourth overall in the league - the top three positions are reserved for division leaders.

The Bombers will have a chance at some home cooking on Jan. 25 and 26, when the Battlefords North Stars come to town for two games at the Whitney Forum. To add to the good news for the team, a familiar face is slated to return to the Bombers this weekend. Forward Ethan Daniels, who did not come back to play for the Bombers this past fall, has come back to Flin Flon and will suit up for the team this weekend. In 56 games last season as a rookie, Daniels, a product of Fairbanks, Alaska, had 32 points and 16 goals for the Bombers.
