Two charged with attempted murder

Barrhead RCMP have charged two individuals with attempted murder after they allegedly tried to set a man on fire at the Tiger Lily transfer site on Nov. 28.

According to a news release, RCMP responded to a complaint of a pickup truck on fire at the transfer site shortly before 8 a.m. last Wednesday.

The driver of the truck, who was uninjured, was still on scene and told the police that two assailants had covered him and the truck in gasoline, then set it ablaze.

RCMP officers tracked down two suspects and arrested them without incident. Both suspects are now in custody and are scheduled to appear in Barrhead Provincial Court on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

As stated in the press release, RCMP believe this was not a random event and there is no risk to public safety.

Chastity Willie Belcourt, 34, is charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Harley Rudolf Horn, 31, has been charged with attempted murder, arson, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failure to remain at the scene of a collision and uttering threats.
