Dear Editor, This is mainly a response to an individual who phoned me and beaked off and hung up without letting me respond. Animals rights do not give anyone's dog the right to crap and pee all over the neighbourhood and in my yard, even on our deck! This individual told me I have no right to touch someone else's dog when it's in my yard. But it is my yard and I can detain any animal and call the dog catcher. All summer I put up with dogs using our yard and our neighbours' yards as a public restroom. Some people are not responsible pet owners if they just open the door to let their animals run. This mentality should change. This is not teaching children to be responsible pet owners, either. People still have to work on picking up their dog crap. Recently, I watched a woman on Main St. watch her dog take a crap. She then wiped its butt, threw the toilet paper down and walked away. There is such a thing as the Good Neighbour Policy, but it's not always being followed. My mother across the road gets dog crap in her yard and cat crap in her flower bed, but has no pets. One of the dogs I've dealt with was aggressive and intimidating. You should be allowed to be in your own yard without having dogs barking and growling at you. I don't have a problem with dogs Ð it's the irresponsible dog owners that bother me. To the person who gave my name to the dog owners, thank you for ruining my surprise. I wanted to find out who the owners were so I could divvy up the two pails of presents their dogs left, and return them. I am the dog catcher at Beaver Lake and when someone wants to help me with problem dogs, I don't tell the owner who helped me. I use discretion! I am the victim here, not anyone else. The only excuse for animals being picked up by the dog catcher are the irresponsible pet owners. There are three local animal control officers: one in Flin Flon, one in Creighton and one in Denare Beach. I know in all three areas ALL dogs are supposed to be leashed or under control. If they are loose, you are enabling us the opportunity to catch your animals (cats and dogs). When your pet is picked up, don't use excuses. You are the excuse. People should know an animal control officer's family has nothing to do with their job. It is by our own volition, no one else's. Some people don't want to upset their neighbours by phoning the dog catcher or detaining a dog. If they were such good neighbours, their pets wouldn't be loose in your yard. On a different note, an interesting, informative website to check out for news you won't find on TV is Infowars.com. Fed up with all the crap, Perry Riehl Creighton
