Trevor Miller Given the safety record of the NWMO (Nuclear Waste Management Organization) and the extremely low risks involved, I don't see any serious reason why Creighton shouldn't pursue the waste storage project under consideration. The economic benefits of a storage facility here would be far-reaching and long-term, two things this area needs for its sustainability as a community, and we shouldn't let the emotional stigma attached to the word 'nuclear' dissuade us from what could be a long-term benefit for all. Ken Mansell Flin Flon-Creighton has endured decades of chemical pollution from the smelter and I think they are glad to see the end of it. Too bad so many jobs went with it, now with the closure of all local mines except 777, jobs are even more scarce. This is a likely location for nuclear waste storage if we wanted it. We are in a stable geological area, have the amenities for hosting the site and are in serious economic decline. However, I do not think we want nuclear fuel rods as the foundation for our economy. There is no guarantee this will not go wrong. The smelter was easily turned off, this project is forever. Denny Hyndman I understand the concern, nuclear waste sounds nasty. It may prevent newcomers and send some packing, but so will no jobs. I like the sound of community growth, if it proves safe this could be great for up-building. Our area is already on the worldwide map for great eclectic mixes, storing of nuclear waste is just as zany as past bold moves. It is important to peer into future industries, but I am a skeptic that our area would be selected since most of the waste is Ontario-based.
