Trevor Miller Voters should be satisfied on the whole with our MP's performance, particularly in light of the misguided policies she and her party are fighting against from our 39.6 per cent majority government. Her leadership run raised the profile of our riding along with hers. While it seems controversial on the face of it, her apparent turnaround the gun registry was not a matter of weak principles, but rather a nuanced view of what the actual wording of the legislation was. For such a young parliamentarian, she has accomplished more than many of her elders, and I'd encourage her to keep standing her ground as a valuable member of the Official Opposition. Ken Mansell Yes and no. Niki is an accomplished, ambitious politician who will be influential within the NDP. She'll fight for her constituents but has made some unpopular decisions. She flip-flopped on the long-gun registry, first siding with the Conservatives then supporting Quebec's attempt to salvage it. She opposed a law requiring native band chiefs and councillors to post their salaries online. Have we not learned anything from Mike Duffy? She also spoke against efforts to examine the question of when life begins. Why? We don't see much of her in Flin Flon unless it is a photo-op or a parade. This a huge constituency but we're still an important part of it. Denny Hyndman Niki has a strong voice for a lot of issues, but I have not attended her public meetings, if they are here, and also have not spoken to her in relation to her politics or vision for the North. So generally speaking then, it's hard for me to exercise political interest when scandalous rumours are aplenty within the system as a whole. Voters are fickle, public opinion can change in a blink of an eye. Speaking out or being silent is enough to sink you or float you. I think, so far, her standpoints are necessary but maybe not a priority exactly _ for me.
