I’d like to hear more talk about the upcoming civic election in Flin Flon. With the number of tough choices ahead, it’s important to decide what direction we want to take as a community.
It may be easier to let a handful of people take responsibility for making the hard decisions. But the point of a democracy is supposed to be an engaged citizenry discussing the issues and then voting to decide things collectively.
If you don’t take part in the process, you’ve got no right to complain if you don’t like the outcomes. If you do get involved, you get to share in the credit when things go right, as they often do.

I would like to call attention to local business owners, who have contributed much to our economy throughout the years. They have struggled at times, but thankfully survived and stayed to fight another day.
What is noteworthy is the amount of dollars they give generously every year to local causes. They deserve our thanks.
Congrats to new local entrepreneur Paulette Berthelot, who has established a lovely women’s boutique called Newest Wrinkle. It’s wonderful to see at least one women’s shop on Main Street.
Flin Flon cannot grow and survive without a strong business centre. Show support by shopping local.

One unresolved question: How can we contribute $2.2-million (or more) for the new hospital ER when we have so many other debts?
I know we can use in-kind credits, but that won’t be enough. Then the bill goes to over $4 million if we cannot pay within about a year.
The next problem that needs discussion by the members will be the potential major upgrade or replacement of our Co-op.
We have been told that the building has problems. I like the store and its location, and it appears the former Extra Foods store will not be available soon, if at all. Main Street needs this business. I cannot think of other locations.
