What do YOU think?

My favourite local landmark is the observation tower at Bakers Narrows, particularly at the beginning of fall when the leaves start changing. To me, that’s pretty much the most beautiful spot in the world.

What it’s added for me is an appreciation for the amazing natural setting we live in up here (and the climb probably does me some sort of good, I suppose). As part of the park, it lets people visiting our community experience a little more of what we have to offer.

I know it’s kind of a little thing, but for me at least the area wouldn’t be quite the same without it.

When it comes to landmarks, the one that stands out for me is Phantom Lake.

Within walking distance of Flin Flon, it once provided a host of amenities, unequaled today.  There was a concession booth, a band stand, camp and trailer park, two tennis courts, lifeguards along with organized swimming lessons, games for the kids and much more.

The grounds, always immaculately maintained, provided a venue for such events such as Trout Festival, Canada Day as well as many other private and family occasions.

Used and appreciated by so many, it is indeed shameful to see it in its present deteriorated state.

There is one landmark that stands out above all others.

It was not built to be a tourist attraction but was an integral part of our economy. It has guided many a fisherman, snowmobiler, hiker or small plane back home day or night.

Of course I am referring to the stack. When it was billowing smoke, wind speed and direction were not hard to tell.

I hope it is never demolished. Most artists and photographers include it in memories of Flin Flon.
